Shelterbelt Program

Shelterbelt Program

Shelterbelts protect soil from wind erosion, trap snow during the winter, provide wildlife habitat and sequester carbon.  The LSRCD will provide assistance with planting and mulching.  Trees can be ordered through the District with landowners paying for the trees.   Plastic mulch will be used in an effort to reduce maintenance and improve seedling survival. Planting costs are $250 per planted mile with the use of a tree planter. Plastic mulch is $100 per 500m roll, that includes staff and rental of the applicator.

Deadline for tree orders and planting is February 16th, 2018. Call the office today to book your trees and/or planting. Apply early for best selection of tree stock.
